Summer 2008 Forestry Twilight Field Tours
FREE and open to the public

Multiple funding opportunities are available to family forest owners to implement projects that will improve the health and habitat value of their forests and streams. Are you looking for some inspiration? Three evening field tours will feature projects that have been funded through various cost-share programs. Bring a neighbor, meet agency staff that can explain the ins and outs of cost-share funding, and enjoy an educational evening!

All programs begin at 6:30 pm. Directions will be provided upon RSVP. To sign up, email Amy Grotta or call 206-205-3132.

June 3rd - Reforestation, Conifer Release, and Site Maintenance
This tour, in the Enumclaw area, will feature a stand improvement project implemented in 2008 with Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) cost share funds. An understocked stand was interplanted, competing vegetation was controlled and a young alder stand thinned. NRCS program staff will be on hand to explain the EQIP application process and ranking criteria. Deadline for 2009 EQIP applications is July 15th!

June 10th - Fish Habitat Enhancement
This tour, in the Snoqualmie area, will feature a culvert replacement project implemented with Family Forest Fish Passage Program (FFFPP) cost-share funds. Think your stream may have a barrier to fish passage? Attend this tour to learn about opportunities to help get it fixed!

June 17th - Timber Stand Improvement
We will tour a family forest in the Auburn-Black Diamond area that was precommercially thinned in 2001, and now growing well on its way to commercial size. Learn about the Landowner Incentive Program, a new opportunity sponsored by the King Conservation District available to help fund projects of this nature and other forest health improvement projects.

All cost-share programs will be discussed at each tour. Come to one or all! Thanks to our co-sponsors: King County Dept. of Natural Resources and Parks, Washington Dept. of Natural Resources, King Conservation District, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
